If you are being absolutely the most careful, you will need those steps, otherwise, No. Most users can NORMALLY install the OS without anything but the LiveCD.

Hmmm, that sounds interesting, and a bit dangerous as well.

I used a program before called VMWare Workstation. It creates a “virtual” partition in your PC, where you can install another system. It sounds a bit more simple that what you described, but it’s still kind of risky.

Those are a lot of instructions, I can’t remember having done all that with mine (but that’s very long ago).

Anyway, Wubi makes it much easier to check out the first time anyway, in an installation no more difficult than Firefox

Nice post.

One of the problems though is that an ‘ordinary’ windows user wanting to also keep XP will be scared-off by the steps needs for dual-booting.
